About this departmental advice
This advice relates to the School Information (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2012 (SI 2012/1124). These are designed to make schools accountable and ensure parents have access to good quality information so they can make informed choices.
The regulations remove the requirement upon governing bodies of maintained schools to publish the annual prospectus, and instead introduce a new obligation requiring schools to publish specified information on a website. These changes came into effect on 1 September 2012.
The School Information (England) Regulations 2008 (SI 2008/3093) which require local authorities to produce a composite prospectus to help parents to understand and make informed choices about their child’s education remains unchanged.
Expiry/review date
These are new regulations effective from 1 September 2012. There are no plans for them to be reviewed.
Who is this advice for?
All maintained schools. New model funding agreements will require academies and free schools to publish the same information as maintained schools, including their Pupil Premium allocation, spend and impact on attainment.
