Part 3: School workforce
This part abolishes the General Teaching Council for England (GTCE) and the Teacher Development Agency (TDA). The Minister assured the Committee that the Department was working closely with both agencies to ensure that the transition is well managed and that expertise are retained. In relation to teacher regulation, he explained that the Government wanted to empower schools and headteachers to deal effectively with issues of professional incompetence. He confirmed that effective joint working with the Independent Safeguarding Authority would continue under the new arrangements.
