The New Year honours list was published on Saturday 31 December 2011. In total, 86 people received awards from across the Department’s spectrum of responsibility.

A Knighthood was awarded to Sir Rod Aldridge, Chair of the Aldridge Foundation, for services to young people.

Damehoods were awarded to:

  • Dame Moira Gibb DBE, Lately Chief Executive of the London Borough of Camden and Chair of the Social Work Reform Board, for services to local government and social work; and
  • Dame Sylvia Morris DBE, Headteacher of The Cathedral School of St Saviour and St Mary Overy, Southwark, for services to Education.
