The Government set out the need for greater transparency across its operations to enable the public to hold public bodies and politicians to account. This includes a commitment relating to public expenditure, intended to help achieve better value for money.

In April 2010, as part of this transparency agenda, the Department for Education and our Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs) began to publish spending over £25,000. On 31 March 2012, most of the ALBs were closed, so this information is now available on the National Archives website.

We aim to publish the data for the previous month by the last working day of the current month.

You can also search for the Department's and our ALB's data on Data.gov.uk where you will find further information about the Government’s transparency initiative - a link is provided in the associated resources on this page.
