The Department is taking a range of actions to foster fairness in all areas of its work: The Department has done the following:
- commissioned the Children’s Society to produce a section of the care planning guidance on working with children with communication difficulties/impairments
- is supporting organisations, particularly black and minority ethnic groups, to speed up the process of adoption for children.
- works with a range of partners, such as Beatbullying, who place a lot of emphasis on promoting equality.
- made sure that meetings on different aspects of the curriculum have involved partners from the various equality communities.
- worked closely with a range of partners, including the Special Educational Consortium (SEC) and the Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) to develop ways to reduce the number of exclusions.
- ensured 22 local delivery projects in 25 local authority areas are developing innovative local approaches to increasing participation to deliver Raising the Participation Age (RPA).
Other Evidence
The Department also draws on evidence published by other organisations, especially where the Department's data is less detailed, or if we need to gather insights from experience of groups that may not correspond directly with the Department. Examples of such reports are in the associated resources section below. The last four sites include material on the protected characteristics of religion or belief.
