This statutory guidance is for:
- local authorities
- directors of children’s services
- social workers
- independent reviewing officers
- officers who are responsible for the education of looked-after children
It details the duty local authorities have to promote the educational achievement of the children they look after, including those placed out-of-authority.
This guidance updates and replaces statutory guidance issued in 2005 on the duty on local authorities to promote the educational achievement of looked-after children.
It will be reviewed in spring and updated in summer 2014.
