This chapter addresses the duties of adoption agencies (and local authorities in non-agency adoption cases) in court proceedings. In addition to the specific responsibilities imposed by the legislation and the Family Procedure Rules 2010 guidance is given on issues that must be addressed in coordinating adoption agency functions with ongoing court proceedings under the Children Act 1989 for a care order. Directors of children’s services should develop and sustain constructive links between their adoption and looked-after children’s teams and the courts in their area with the aim of jointly minimising delays in court proceedings.
