Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) is a professional accreditation endorsed by the government for graduate practitioners who have demonstrated a set of professional standards.
The final EYPS intake was January 2013.
The new Early Years Teacher programme will build on the success of EYPS and commences in September 2013.
All candidates currently on the EYPS programme will be supported and encouraged to complete their training. Those who hold EYPS will continue to be valued as graduate leaders and will be recognised as the equivalent of an early years teacher.
Over 11,700 people with Early Years Professional Status are working across England, making a positive difference to children's learning and development every day. Whether you are a current candidate or a qualified early years professional, you hold a unique and valued position in the workforce and are part of a growing professional network of highly-effective graduate leaders.
Early years professionals have had a positive impact on the quality of early education and care for pre-school children. The introduction of early years teachers will build on the impact of the EYPS programme to raise the status of the early years workforce. The change will give one title of ‘teacher’ across the early years and schools.
