The Work with Parents (WWP) qualifications are based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Work with Parents, and since April 2009 the units have been available for all awarding bodies to offer as qualifications for the parenting workforce.

City and Guilds is currently the only awarding organisation which is offering the Work with Parents qualifications.

The WWP qualifications seek to address the training needs of all parenting practitioners who do not have a graduate qualification in a helping profession. When taught effectively, they will provide the essential and foundational knowledge and skills for working effectively with parents.

All parenting practitioners without a graduate qualification in a helping profession will benefit from a WWP qualification, at a minimum of level three.

The accredited Work with Parents qualifications available are:

The City and Guilds Work with Parents Qualification Handbook provides more detail on the Work with Parents qualifications including an outline of each of the units. There is also a new handbook specifically for the Level 4 Award (Intense support for families with multiple needs)

Level 3 Work with Parents qualifications

The Level 3 Work with Parents qualifications are the most relevant qualifications for parenting practitioners who are working at a preventative or universal level with parents.

Practitioners working at Level 3 will be delivering frontline services to parents/carers in Children’s Centres and/or extended services in schools.

Level 3 qualifications have been designed to:

  • Equip practitioners delivering frontline parenting services with essential knowledge and skills to enable them to work with parents effectively
  • Provide a wide range of units that cover the key aspects of the parenting   practitioner’s role
  • Support those individuals new to their work role
  • Provide ‘top-up’ training and continuous professional development opportunities for staff working in the sector.
