Local partnerships in around half of local authorities have led on a programme of child poverty pilots from 2008 to March 2011. The pilots represented a large and varied set of innovative policy interventions, with each pilot testing a different approach to tackling child poverty.
Here you will find a short online guide Local approaches to Tackling Child Poverty and a collection of pilot case studies that have both been developed together by the Child Poverty Unit and local partners to raise awareness of the innovative work that has taken place. The intention is to make available emerging good practice and evidence so local authorities and other partners are able to consider and draw upon what might be relevant to them.
The guide highlights some of the innovative work that has taken place and signposts an evaluation of the programme, individual pilot evaluations and wider sources of information and online tools. The intention is to work with you to develop this resource over time.
The case studies have been provided by the pilot areas and aim to illustrate how the intervention addresses the issues identified locally, what barriers they have faced, what innovative solutions they have adopted to address them, and what they see as emerging outcomes. The case studies have been structured according to four themes: employment and skills, life chances, financial support, and place and delivery.
New case studies can be added at any time, so if your area would like to share learning by providing a case study please send them to contacts.CPU@childpovertyunit.gsi.gov.uk
