Residential care remains an important placement option for looked after children. In September 2010 we established a programme to work to support the residential care sector and encourage continuing improvements in the quality of residential care for children. We want to make sure examples of excellent practice in some children's homes are shared as widely as possible.
In April 2011, we issued revised regulations, guidance and National Minimum Standards for children’s homes. These require each child to be offered the right personal support and follow the child’s journey from planned admission to a children’s home to a planned transition. Children’s homes need to offer young people in their care a positive, warm and caring environment so that they can flourish and achieve their potential. This section contains information about the work being done to ensure these aims are met.
