The following are excellent examples of good local practice that other areas can learn from, to support families with multiple problems.
- An Ofsted report (October 2011) has shown that family intervention services are keeping children out of care.
- Walsall Council has saved almost £1m through its use of the family intervention project, which safely prevents children from going into care. Medway Council believes it is saving £1.6m a year through its family intervention service.
- Sandwell Council's family intervention project has helped divert young people from crime. Police have partly attributed an overall fall in crime in the area to the project.
- A housing association in Tower Hamlets has helped fund a family intervention project, with benefits for community, local schools and individuals. A group of mothers who benefited from its support have since been inspired by the project to start their own social enterprise providing a catering service for parenting classes.
