To help children and young people use the internet safely, the Department supports the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS).  UKCCIS is a voluntary organisation that works to protect children from risks including cyberbullying; harmful content such as pro-anorexia or suicide information; sexual images; grooming; loss of privacy and scams.

UKCCIS collectively agrees how to develop and promote effective tools and information for children and parents.

It is jointly chaired by Tim Loughton MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families and Lynne Featherstone MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities and Criminal Information.

Ed Vaizey MP, Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries is also an executive Board member. It brings together over 180 organisations and individuals from government, industry, law enforcement, academia, charities and parenting groups. Its aim is to work in partnership to keep children and young people safe online.

To help children enjoy the internet safely, in February 2010 the Council launched a new behavioural code called 'Click Clever Click Safe'. The code's key messages 'zip it, block it, flag it' encourage children to keep personal information safe; avoid opening links and emails from unknown senders; and tell someone they trust if they encounter anything online that upsets them.
