The guidance, Safeguarding children and young people from sexual exploitation (2009) replaced Safeguarding children involved in prostitution (2000). It supplements Working together to safeguard children (March 2010) and is aimed at local safeguarding children board partners, practitioners and other professionals working with children and young people.
The guidance provides information about the different forms of sexual exploitation, helping local agencies develop prevention strategies. It will help identify those at risk of sexual exploitation and take action to safeguard and promote the welfare of particular children and young people. It will also help take action against those intent on abusing and exploiting children and young people in this way.
