The Department has published Guidance on the employment of children, outlining the special rules that apply to the employment of children under the school-leaving age.

It is intended for local authorities, employers, parents and others to promote understanding and effective operation of the law. It takes account of suggestions from stakeholders, sets out the key provisions of the law on child employment and includes advice based on best practice.

The guidance covers employment in England but is not an authoritative legal interpretation of the provisions of the relevant acts of Parliament, by-laws and regulations.
