Commercial and procurement skills
It is vital that commissioners, procurers, contract managers and providers of children's services have access to the commercial and procurement skills needed to deliver services, develop markets and procure services effectively. This page signposts readers to online commercial and procurement tools, case studies, guidance and sources of information for skill development, that have been used or recommended by other professionals working in this field.
Tools
The Department’s commercial group has published a range of documents to help commissioners understand, use and apply commercial and procurement skills. These documents are available to download from the associated resources section on this page. Please note this guidance is non-statutory.
We would like to thank those involved in producing these documents, in particular to Bridghe Forde.
Commissioning
Commissioning should be at the heart of improving outcomes for children, young people and families. It is a key tool in systems re-design and was designed for all people working in children, young people and maternity services - including political leaders, senior management, commissioners, procurers, and providers etc.
A range of materials have been developed to help local areas to improve commissioning practice.
See the commissioning section of the Department's website for more information, and for access to the commissioners kitbag.
