Revised framework for the inspection of maintained schools

Following the publication of the Education Bill in January 2011, Ofsted launched its consultation on the revised school inspection framework on 21 March. Ofsted has published a formal consultation document on its website and has written to all maintained schools and key stakeholder groups asking for their views on its proposals. The formal consultation, which will be complemented by a programme of face-to-face meetings, will last for eight weeks.

There will be an extensive programme of pilot inspections, with published inspection reports, in the second half of the summer term. Ofsted plan to finalise the revised framework and associated inspection instruments and guidance early in the autumn term 2011 for implementation, subject to legislation, in January 2012.
