The Department brought a focus group of local authorities (LAs) together at the end of 2007 to help develop the technical specification for the 2009-10 CIN (children in need) census (and incorporate the previous aggregate CPR3 return into CIN at child level). The group has also been a sounding board for other more general issues related to Children's Services Statutory Returns, and the Department is grateful for its input.

Since November 2007, the Department has also met regularly with Children’s Services Statutory Returns software suppliers. The two groups merged in early 2009 and joint meetings have taken place since. In January 2012 the pool of LA attendees was reviewed and expanded, LAs not attending are offered the chance to contribute agenda items and questions. Meeting notes are circulated to all LAs as well as published on this website. The group will continue to meet jointly on a roughly termly basis and be a sounding board for issues related to Children’s Services Statutory Returns providing valuable feedback on these returns.
