On 5 July the Secretary of State announced a review of all areas of the Department for Education's capital spending. Its purpose is to change the way schools building is done so that waste (of both time and money) is eliminated as far as possible. This should significantly increase the amount and pace of improvement that can be achieved for any given level of spending, and in turn support the Government's ambitions to reduce the deficit. This call for evidence seeks your views on these proposals.

This consultation seeks views on proposed arrangements for the operation of the pupil premium and the distribution of the Dedicated Schools Grant to local authorities for 2011-12. It seeks views on the overall funding methodology and puts forward options for how elements of the pupil premium should operate. The consultation runs from 26 July to 18 October - 12 weeks. We are aware that this period includes the summer break. Unfortunately we cannot extend the deadline for responses as we need to conclude by that time to give sufficient time for the calculation of local authority and school budgets. The school funding consultation was announced in Parliament on 26 July 2010.
Please note that, on accessing this consultation, the first option ‘Read the consultation document on-line' opens the Executive Summary only. The full consultation document is available as a download (option 4 in the list).
