A new package of support will be available to ex-teachers who want to return to the profession in the New Year. If you are interested in finding out more please call 0800 085 0971 to speak to one of our advisers.

Around 10,000 ex-teachers return to the profession each year, bringing with them valuable skills and experience.

To teach in a state-maintained school, you need to have qualified teacher status – or QTS. If you don't already have QTS, you'll need to complete a teacher training course to get it. Find out about the various types of courses

If you already have QTS, you don't need to complete teacher training to return to teaching. There is no age limit for returning teachers, and many headteachers value the life experience that older members of staff bring. Nobody can be turned down on the grounds of age alone.

Post-ITT subject knowledge enhancement

We're working with Teaching School Alliances (TSAs) to develop and deliver a range of post-ITT subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) for priority subjects.
