- To be a teacher, you need to have a degree. To be eligible for Transition to Teaching your degree must be in science, technology, engineering, maths or a related subject
- To be eligible for teacher training to teach at secondary level, you need to have English and maths GCSE grade C or above, or show that you can meet the required standard.
- You need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS) to teach at state-maintained schools in England and Wales. Most people take a course of initial teacher training, which leads to QTS.
