Our job is to set out, explain and comment on the Department for Education’s policies. We tweet about all aspects of our work including:

Major announcements, statements, statistics and research publications

Breaking news stories and big issues affecting the Department for Education.

Speeches, visits and events by the Secretary of State and ministers.

The latest content on our YouTube, Flickr and Facebook pages.

Alerts when public consultations have just launched or are about to close.

We also retweet interesting stories, comments or opinion which we think will be of interest to our followers.

	Following @educationgovuk

We try to tweet every day about the Department's activities. If you follow our Twitter feed, you will be among the first to learn about new announcements, statements and stories.

	@ messages

We review all @ messages every day. We will try to respond to the big issues and trends via our Twitter feed. And we will make sure the feedback we're getting from you gets to the appropriate people within the Department. Even if we do not reply directly, that does not mean we aren't listening to your views.

	Direct messages

We will not always be able to reply to direct messages due to the sheer volume we receive. The limitations of Twitter's format mean that we would not always be able to give you a full and useful reply. The best way to get in touch with us officially is via the contact us page on our website.

	Media enquiries

Our Twitter stream is not intended to be used by the media to contact us. If you are a member of the media, you should contact the Press Office directly on the Press Office contacts page.

	Freedom of Information

Although we welcome requests made under the Freedom Of Information (FOI) Act in any written format, you may find that the character limitations of Twitter impact on the scope of your enquiry. In order to receive a full response to your request you will also need to provide your name and address (this can be an electronic address such as email). We would therefore advise that you submit any FOI requests via the contact us page on our website.
