- The overall absence rate has decreased, going from 6.27 per cent to 6.04 per cent.

Schools population data
- In January 2010 there were around 8.1 million pupils (headcount) in all schools in England.
- In 2010 there were 22,510 pupils in alternative provision.

Workforce stats
- From November 2010, figures are from a new School Workforce Census.
- The provisional November 2010 results for publicly funded LA maintained schools and academy schools show that the full-time equivalent (FTE) number of regular teachers and support staff in publicly funded schools was 850,100.
- The number of FTE teachers in service was 448,100.
- The FTE number of regular teaching assistants in service was 213,900.

GCSE results
- 53.4 per cent achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grade A*-C or the equivalent including English and mathematics GCSEs or iGCSEs, an increase of 3.6 percentage points from 2008/09. The inclusion of accredited iGCSEs into this measure does not make a difference when reported to one decimal place.
- 75.4 per cent achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grade A*-C or the equivalent, an increase of 5.4 percentage points from 2008/09. When iGCSEs are excluded, the proportion falls slightly to 75.3 per cent.
- 55.2 per cent in maintained schools achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grade A*-C or the equivalent including English and mathematics GCSEs or iGCSEs, an increase of 4.5 percentage points from 2008/09
- 15.6 per cent achieved the English Baccalaureate in 2009/10.

Exclusions
- There was an estimated 6,550 permanent exclusions from primary, secondary and all special schools in 2008/09.
- In 2008/09 there were 307,840 fixed period exclusions from state funded secondary schools, 39,510 fixed period exclusions from primary schools and 15,930 fixed period exclusions from special schools.
- The average length of a fixed period exclusion in state funded secondary schools was 2.6 days, for primary schools the average length of a fixed period exclusion was 2.2 days.

School admissions
- 84.6 per cent of families received an offer of a place at their highest preference school – an increase of 1.4 per cent from March 2010.
- 95.6 per cent of families received an offer of a place at one of their top three preferred schools – an increase of 0.7 percentage points from March 2010.
- 97.2 per cent of families received an offer of a place at one of their preferred school
