On 16 July 2012, the Arts Council announced the preferred suppliers for the National Youth Dance Company and four new In Harmony projects.
Sadler’s Wells has been chosen to run the National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) from September 2012. The NYDC will recruit 30 talented young people, aged 16 to 19, each year over the next three years. It proposes to establish a national dancing house of international renown which will give the young performers the opportunity to work with world-class choreographers and artistic directors.
The young artists, drawn from all backgrounds, will also receive support from the NYDC to produce their own high-quality choreography and gain experience in the world of professional dance.
The four new In Harmony projects are The Sage Gateshead, Opera North, Nottingham City Council, and Telford and Wrekin Music. They are funded by the Department and ACE from September 2012 to March 2015. Together with existing projects in Lambeth and Liverpool, this will bring to six the number of In Harmony projects running across the country.
The aim of In Harmony is to inspire and transform the lives of children in deprived communities by using the power and disciplines of community-based orchestral music-making.
