No money from free school meals being used to fund new free schools

Information on Michael Gove's announcement on the funding for free schools in the year 2010 to 2011.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

On 21 June, the Secretary of State made clear to the house that under no circumstances would he take money intended to extend free school meals to poor children for the Free Schools programme.

He said the initial £50 million in capital to fund free schools in they year 2010 to 2011 comes from low-priority IT projects.
