National Summary

Revised figures for 2012 show that 86 per cent of 11 year olds reached the required standard in English up from 79 per cent in 2005. In Mathematics 84 per cent of 11 year olds reached the required standard up from 75 per cent in 2005.

National Curriculum tests in Science for all pupils were discontinued after the 2009 academic year.

In 2012 89 per cent (revised) of pupils progressed by 2 levels in English between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This compares with 81 per cent in 2006.

In 2012 87 per cent of pupils progressed by 2 levels in Mathematics between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This compares with 74 per cent in 2006.

Validation and Quality Assurance
Performance data received from the Awarding Bodies is combined for each pupil by the Department's contractor - numerous checks are carried out on this data by the Department and the contractor. This data is then combined for each school by another contractor, at which point another set of checks are carried out by the Department and the contractor. The data is then sent out to schools to check their figures and submitted to a further set of validations and checks before publication in the Performance Tables.
Geographic Referencing
LA - Each record was allocated to it's administrative LA using the LA element of the individual schools establishment number
Ward, Local Authority District and GOR - Geographic Referencing was carried out by the DfE using reference data provided by the Office for National Statistics. Each record was allocated to a 2003 Census Area Statistics (CAS) Ward, Local Authority District (LAD) and Government Office Region (GOR) using its postcode.
