Head Start is a professional development programme for new headteachers. As part of the programme, we offer the opportunity to access a coach – an experienced, serving headteacher who will support you during your first two years of headship. Your coach will provide personalised, needs-based coaching and mentoring support during this stage.

How do I find a coach?

Once your application for Head Start has been accepted, you will receive an email from the National College informing you how to search our database of experienced headteachers who are trained coaches.

What are the benefits of coach support?

All our coaches have been trained in coaching and mentoring, so can provide a range of support.

A coach's support:

  • is determined by your needs and priorities
  • is unconditional, one-to-one support
  • provides access to professional experience and practical insight
  • encourages reflection
  • is confidential
  • aims to enhance your confidence and promote well being
  • is delivered over 20-30 hours of coaching and mentoring

Cost
