Our national qualifications and study modules give you more choice in your professional development.
They’re part of our leadership curriculum which is structured around levels. Each level reflects the different needs and challenges that leaders face as they progress and take on new roles and responsibilities.
At each level you will be offered a choice of modules (essential and elective), which can be combined to pursue a qualification or studied on their own as a stand-alone course – allowing you to choose modules that match your development needs and career aspirations.
Our qualifications combine essential study modules with a choice of elective modules.
Levels 4 and 5, for heads and system leaders, are in development. They will be professional development opportunities not formal qualifications. Further information will be published, once available, in 2014.
If you're a school leader from the English state-maintained sector, you may be eligible for a National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) scholarship towards the cost of undertaking one of our qualifications. Our licensees can tell you more about the scholarships available and confirm the full cost of your chosen qualification.
If you have already completed one of our leadership development programmes, or a Master's or other type of postgraduate course, you may be exempt from some aspects of NPQML and NPQSL.

All of our elective modules can be studied as stand-alone courses and involve up to 50 hours of learning.
The leadership curriculum is delivered by licensees around the country, each with their own areas of specialism, so you can choose the one that best meets your needs.
Licensees all deliver the same essential modules, but may vary in the elective modules that they offer.
Flexible study is a key aspect of all of our qualifications and modules. With a variety of learning methods, from workplace projects to e-learning, you can study wherever you want. The normal duration of study for a qualification is 12 months, however you can take up to 18 months, depending on your experience and how you manage your study around other priorities.
We work closely with all our licensees to make sure that they meet the high standards of quality and excellence that we expect.
