The application round for the redesigned National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) is now open.

This is the only application round this year.

Over recent weeks we have listened to feedback from school leaders telling us that they need more time to gather the evidence and support to make an application. In response, we’ve decided to extend the current application round until 3 July.

As there are a limited number of places on NPQH, we will start assessing written applications immediately after the original closing date of 15 May; those who are successful at this stage will be invited to an assessment day in June. For applications received after 15 May, the assessment day will be held in September.

Join an information session in your region to talk to recent graduates, find out more about the changes to NPQH and get support in making an application.

Application process

There are two stages to the application process.

Stage one: an online application form with endorsement from your line manager or sponsor

You will be required to complete an online application form. This will draw out your evidence against the competencies within the redesigned NPQH assessment framework.

The application form will require you to secure endorsement and support from your sponsor (usually line manager) , confirming your suitability and readiness for headship and NPQH. This will also ensure commitment at an early stage from the sponsor to play an active role in developing you and encouraging and promoting your involvement in leadership development and other professional development opportunities.

There will be further online activity associated with the application stage.  Details will be available nearer the time.

Stage two: one-day assessment

If you are successful at stage one you will be invited to attend the second stage of the application process: a one-day assessment event commencing 6 June 2012.

Our provider will contact your line manager or sponsor following completion of the assessment centre to further validate evidence of your readiness for NPQH. This will be done by telephone.

Upon successful completion of stage two, you will be able to approach a number of National College licensees with whom you can register to undertake the NPQH programme.

We will issue a list of licensees and contact details nearer the time.
