Costs of NPQH

Scholarships and funding are available for participants of the redesigned National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) as detailed below. Costs relate specifically to intake two who will start the programme in September 2013.

Initial and final assessments fully funded by the College (travel, supply and subsistence not included).

Scholarships available up to a maximum of approximately £2,434.

Maintained school, including:

  • community schools and colleges
  • foundation schools and colleges
  • voluntary-aided schools and colleges
  • voluntary-controlled schools and colleges
  • local authority nursery schools

Non-maintained special schools

Pupil referral units

Academies

Free schools

Advisers/consultants employed by local authorities or diocesan authorities

Scholarships available up to a maximum of approximately £1,500.

Non-maintained/independent school
Not employed in a school (apart from local or diocesan authority advisers/consultants – see above)

Total programme and final assessment costs are approximately £3,875:

  • Assessment costs approximately £1,500.
  • Programme recommended retail price £2,375 (variable by licensee).

School outside of England If you are part of an organisation that would be able to recruit a cohort of 24 candidates and has the capacity to support the administration of this programme in partnership with us, please contact the international business unit at international.team@nationalcollege.gsi.gov.uk.
Individuals outside of England

If you are able to travel to England for the face-to-face aspect of the programme, which is estimated at around 20–25 days, the approximate cost of the programme would be as follows.

  • Assessment costs: approximately £1,500.
  • Programme recommended retail price: £2,375 (variable by licensee).
  • No scholarships available.

If eligible, you will be informed of your likely scholarship allocation before you attend your initial one-day assessment as part of your application. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria for a scholarship you can opt to self-fund the programme before attending your assessment.

Final scholarships will only be awarded following the successful completion of the face-to-face assessment.

Scholarships are awarded as a contribution towards the cost of NPQH for the trainee headteacher, and will be paid directly to your regional licensee.
