INTRODUCTIONThese Achievement and Attainment Tables provide an invaluable source of information for young people and their parents on the achievement and attainment of sixth form students in their local secondary schools and Further Education sector colleges, and how they compare with other schools and colleges in the area and in England as a whole. This is one of 47 booklets covering, for the first time, the regional Learning and Skills Councils (LSCs). Each booklet lists, in alphabetical order and sub-divided by the Local Education Authority (LEA), the Further Education sector colleges, maintained secondary schools and independent schools in the LSC area with sixth form students. Special schools that have chosen to be included are also listed and a final section lists any sixth form centres or consortia that operate in the area. Each entry provides information about the achievement and attainment of students over the 2002/03 and 2003/04 academic years in General and Vocational A and AS level examinations and in a number of other advanced and intermediate qualifications including Key Skills at Level 3. Key Skills qualifications are designed to encourage all young people to develop the essential skills of Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology, drawing on evidence from their programme of study. Key Skills at Level 3 have been assigned a point score under the UCAS tariff and are reported alongside A and AS results. Advanced Extension Awards (AEAs) are also reported. As AEAs do not yet have a point score under the UCAS tariff they are being reported separately to A level results for the time being. Information about other results such as GCSE (and equivalent) qualifications in schools can be found in the separate GCSE (and equivalent) Achievement and Attainment Tables booklet. Details of how to obtain further copies of this booklet, booklets for other areas, or other Tables can be found on the back page. |
