The Teaching Agency manages the apprenticeship frameworks for supporting teaching and learning (STL) in schools at level 2 (intermediate) and 3 (advanced).

The apprenticeships are suitable for:

  • teaching/classroom assistants
  • learning support assistants
  • special needs assistants
  • additional needs assistants
  • behaviour support assistants/coordinators
  • pastoral/welfare support
  • bilingual support assistants  
  • teaching assistants with exam invigilation responsibilities
  • learning guides
  • learning coaches.

SASE framework April 2011

The specification of apprenticeship standards for England (SASE) framework in STL has been issued.

Two documents have been produced summarising the main elements of both the intermediate level apprenticeship and the advanced level apprenticeship.

Supporting resources

The following documents have been produced to accompany the STL apprenticeship frameworks:

  • employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) workbook
  • personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) workbook
  • guided learning hours (GLH) declaration form.

Certification of apprenticeships

When an apprenticeship framework is completed, evidence should be submitted for certification via the relevant certification request form below:

  • certification request form STL apprenticeship 3, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3
  • certification request form STL apprenticeship 3.4 interim 2010
  • certification request form STL apprenticeship SASE.
