Ofqual are the regulators of qualifications, exams and tests in England. Their work ensures that learners get the results they deserve and that the qualifications they receive count, both now and in the future.

Ofqual is to be given new powers to fine exam boards. Letters have been sent out to let interested parties know about the Government’s intention to strengthen Ofqual’s powers, including the new fining power. The letter has been sent from the Minister of State to exam boards and representative organisations (including representative bodies of schools, colleges and universities, teaching unions and the NUS) about the planned changes to Ofqual’s powers. Also attached is a letter from Lord Hill to Lord Lingfield about amendments that the Government has made to the Education Bill to introduce these new powers.
