DfE: Changes in the reporting of Child Death Reviews in England for the year ending 31 March 2011
Child death reviews completed in the year ending 31 March 2009 and 2010 were published under the title of "Preventable Child Deaths in England". Data collected for the year ending 31 March 2011 will be published under the title of "Child Death Reviews Completed in England" in July 2011. Child Death Overview Panels (CDOPs) are responsible for reviewing the deaths of all children aged 0 up to 18, and from 01 April 2010 they were no longer required to assess if each death was preventable. Therefore the title of the publication has been revised to reflect this change. Data collected from CDOPs for year ending 31 March 2011 includes for the first time the proportion of deaths which were assessed as having modifiable factors which may have contributed to the death. Additional information about the characteristics of child death reviews will also be published (for example the child's age, gender and cause of death). Information about the characteristics was optional when data was collected for the year ending 31 March 2010.
