DCSF: Neighbourhood Statistics - Announcement of the release of small area National Curriculum Assessment, GCSE and Equivalent Attainment and Post 16 Attainment by Pupil Characteristics in England, 2008

DescriptionStatistics on Small Area Pupil Attainment are published as Neighbourhood Statistics - Announcement of the release of Small Area Pupil Attainment by Pupil Characteristics in England 2008 and include data from England.

The latest statistics report on the period 2007/08 and update those previously released on 28/08/2008.

The key points from the latest release are:
  • These tables reinforce previous messages about patterns of attainment and about the relationship between attainment and gender at National, Regional and Local levels. These tables also provide the first opportunity to present 2007/08 attainment at small area (sub Local Authority District (LAD)) level for KS1 and KS2.
  • Girls continue to perform better than boys in the majority of LADs at KS1, particularly in English subjects. At KS2 girls perform better than boys in English and Science, but not in Mathematics. At KS4 and KS5, girls also outperform boys in all but a few LADs. Whilst the gender gap has narrowed in some LADs between 2007 and 2008, it has widened in others.
These tables will be complemented over the following weeks by the release of additional information based on the geographic locations of the usual residence of pupils and students in England, broken down by gender, Free School Meal (FSM) eligibility and ethnic group.

Additional tables showing attainment by area of pupil residency by gender have been published on the Neighbourhood Statistics website on 1 October 2009.

Additional tables showing attainment by area of pupil residency by Free School Meal eligibility have been published on the Neighbourhood Statistics website on 5 November 2009.

Additional tables showing attainment by area of pupil residency by ethnic group have been published on the Neighbourhood Statistics website on 19 November 2009.
