DfE: Admissions Appeals for maintained primary and secondary schools in England, 2008/09

DescriptionThis Statistical First Release gives information about appeals lodged by parents against non-admission of their children to their preferred school in 2008/09. It details the number of appeals lodged, heard and the outcome. The figures and trends presented in this publication help to monitor the success of policy commitment to ensure that school admission arrangements work for the benefit of all local parents and children.

The key points from the latest release are:

Infant Classes in Primary Schools
  • The number of appeals lodged increased
  • The number of appeals heard by a panel increased
  • The number of appeals decided in favour of the parents increased; however the percentage of appeals decided in favour of the parents decreased.
Primary Schools (including infant classes)
  • The number of appeals lodged increased
  • The number of appeals heard by a panel increased
  • The number of appeals decided in favour of the parents increased; however the percentage of appeals decided in favour of the parents decreased.
Secondary Schools
  • The number of appeals lodged decreased
  • The number of appeals heard by a panel decreased
  • The number of appeals decided in favour of the parents decreased; however the percentage of appeals decided in favour of the parents increased.
