The Local Authority Caterers Association's (LACA) National School Meals Week (NSMW) is the biggest national healthy eating awareness week about school meals in Britain. This year it takes place from 5 to 9 November 2012. It encourages everyone to get involved in promoting healthy school lunches in primary and secondary schools.

The plans are in place and we are all set for a fun-filled National School Meals Week 2012. Here are the themes for the week:

Monday 5 - Get Eating - Lots of schools are running firework themed events at lunchtime. Visit www.iloveschoolmeals.co.uk for more details.

Tuesday 6 - Get Celebrating - This year has seen a lot of celebrations around Britain. Schools will be creating a party atmosphere in the dining hall to celebrate all that is great about school meals.

Wednesday 7 - Get Traditional - Schools are serving up either a traditional British dish or a local dish. Lots of schools are having a British turkey roast with all the trimmings and using the worksheets created by sponsor, Bernard Matthews Food service.

Thursday 8 - Get Exploring - School meals go global today as pupils try dishes from Australia, Africa, Spain, Thailand or Greece. Many caterers will be decorating the dining hall with flags and other decorations to give it an international feel.

Friday 9 - Get Pudding - When parents think about their old school meals they often think about pudding and today we celebrate some of Britain’s favourite school desserts.

Follow the NSMW tour as it heads around the UK each day this week.
