The Department are consulting informally about changes to some of the wording in the local authority schemes for financing schools.
The revisions will take effect on 1 April 2012. This means local authorities’ schemes will need to contain the new wording after this date.
Local authorities have to publish documents - called schemes - to set out the financial relationship between themselves and the schools they maintain.
The proposed changes to the scheme are in the associated resources on this page.
This consulting exercise gives local authorities and partners on consultative groups - such as the School Funding Implementation Group (SFIG) and Service Working Group for Education and Children's Services (SWGECS) - chance to comment on the proposed changes before they are introduced.
Send comments on the proposed changes to the contact below by 5pm on 19 March 2012.
The Secretary of State for Education intends to tell local authorities to make changes to some of the wording of the schemes. These changes are called ‘directed revisions’. He has the power to do this under the Education Act 2011 .
The first set of proposed directed revisions relate to announcements Ministers have already made or to other provisions in the Education Act. For this reason we will only consult for a short period on the proposals - which also include revisions to the statutory scheme guidance.
