The guide is intended for anyone who is involved in the projection of pupil numbers, or who interprets projections for financial, or other planning purposes. It is hoped that the guide will prove helpful to LA officers who calculate projected pupil numbers in order to:

  • help schools with their financial and other planning; and
  • ascertain school capacity. 

It is also hoped that the guide will help LA officers to validate the projections they calculate. The guide may be of particular interest to those at school level, such as headteachers, bursars and governors, who need to use projections of pupil numbers in their planning.  It is hoped that the guide will enable them to:

  • assist LA officers make their projection of pupil numbers more accurate; and
  • make good use of the projections when developing the school improvement plan and determining the detail of the school budget.
