The Secretary of State for Education has announced an independent review of food in schools.
He has appointed Henry Dimbleby and John Vincent of Leon Restaurants to lead the review.
They will work with campaign groups, local authorities, caterers, parents, schools and the Department to build up a systematic picture of school food across England.
They will draw together best practice in the UK and abroad, seeking input from sector bodies, existing campaign groups, local authorities, caterers, schools and others, and consider what will make the difference in those schools that are struggling to make improvements.
The aim of the review is to produce a practical action plan that will set out what more needs to be done to accelerate the inspiring work done by Jamie Oliver and others to ensure that all children eating in English schools are offered good food and given an education that cultivates in them an understanding of food and nutrition.
Mr Dimbleby and Mr Vincent will deliver their plan in 2013.
