The first year of the programme introduces participants to master's level work and consists of three modules. Participants will develop an overview of classroom work and management in the context of special educational needs (SEN) and will gain an appreciation of the need for a coherent and cohesive whole school approach to SEN.

Learning and teaching strategies
Participants will be involved in some or all of the following activities:
- lectures
- presentations and seminars
- workshop-based activities
- software-based tutorials
- web-based research
- conferencing and face-to-face tutorials.
