The Excellent Teacher Scheme (ETS) commenced in September 2006 and was introduced as part of the school-workforce reforms that came about as a result of the January 2004 agreement between the Department and the Rewards and Incentives Group (RIG). The principle of increasing the range of career options available to teachers by having an ETS in England and Wales was confirmed by the School Teachers' Review Body's 14th report and the Secretary of State.
The Department spoke with schools that have created Excellent Teacher (ET) posts in their staffing structures and asked what attracted them to the scheme and what benefits the post had brought to the school. The replies from two schools can be downloaded.
