The Department's Training our next generation of outstanding teachers: Implementation plan, (November 2011), stated that initial teacher training (ITT) providers will have access to a range of high quality tools to assess non-cognitive skills, such as adaptability and resilience, as part of selection for entry on to ITT courses. This is in the context of Ofsted’s new framework for inspection which includes a judgement on the suitability of providers’ selection approaches.
A selection of non-cognitive assessment (NCA) resources are available. The resources have been reviewed by the Teaching Agency and judged to be suitable for use as part of the ITT selection and recruitment process, ideally prior to interview. The resources will complement the skills tests which, for trainees starting ITT from September 2013, need to be passed before training commences.
This information was communicated to ITT providers via an NCA update letter.
