Teachers need qualified teacher status (QTS) to teach in a maintained school or non-maintained special school in England. The Teaching Agency is the awarding body for QTS.
When training has been completed, the initial teacher training (ITT) provider will inform the Teaching Agency of a candidate's course results. The Teaching Agency sends out individual QTS certificates to successful students, welcoming them into the profession.
Teachers who qualify through employment-based routes, such as graduate and registered teacher programmes, also receive their QTS certificates from the Teaching Agency.
For queries about the award of QTS, including checking on the award of the status or if the QTS certificate has been lost and official confirmation of status is needed, please call or email us.
