The role of school governors is to set strategic direction, to hold school leaders to account for improving performance, and to make sure money is well spent.
This section provides information about good governance, and the Department’s approach to reform. Information in this section is relevant to all governors. An additional section contains information that is specific only to governors in maintained schools. Information for governors in academies (including special academies, free schools, studio schools, alternative provision academies and university technical colleges) can also be found in this section.
