Information for School and College Governors (ISCG) is a non-profit making company funded by commissioned publications, seminars and training, and its own publications. The Department commissions work from ISCG and supports some of its activities.

Its employees are all lay governors with many years' experience in all types of school. They network widely in order to observe, digest and influence, providing up-to-date information to the governing body and its clerks. ISCG realises governors can feel very alone when dealing with LAs, teachers and unions, and that they need a reliable support system that is dedicated to them. Among other things, the ISCG website provides details about its advice and consultancy service, training and seminars and publications, and it offers a regular newsletter.

Since its launch in 1991, ISCG has proved itself as a truly independent governor-friendly organisation.

It have close links with

  • the Educational Law Association (ELAS)
  • the Department's Advisory Group on Governance (AGOG)
  • the One Stop Shop for Governors
  • other consultative bodies.

The Department also consults with ISCG on teachers' pay and conditions and other initiatives.
