Before opening a University Technical College (UTC) or Studio School, an academy trust must enter into a funding agreement with the Secretary of State. The funding agreement provides the framework within which the UTC or Studio School will operate.

Please note that these model documents reflect the latest legislative and policy positions at the date of publication. The precise terms on which the Secretary of State will enter into an agreement in respect of a particular school will reflect the individual circumstances of the project.
Under Section 10 of the Academies Act, trusts must consult on whether or not to enter into academy arrangements with the Secretary of State. The model funding agreements set out the academy arrangements for UTCs and Studio Schools, and can be used as the basis for carrying out this consultation.
