Inclusion on the directory is not an indication that the Department has 'approved' a provider or the provision it offers and the Department is not responsible for the quality and conduct of any of the providers registered. Local authorities and schools should satisfy themselves of the suitability of providers, including that they have in place relevant health and safety, insurance and safeguarding processes. They should also ensure that providers are registered with the Department as independent schools, where appropriate – please see the registration of independent schools website.
