Who might be suitable for one-to-one tuition? Information about who is eligible for tuition and a description of the purpose of tuition. <![CDATA[<h1> Who is eligible for one-to-one tuition?</h1> <p> The eligibility criteria for tuition have been based on those used in the Making Good Progress pilot. Tuition should only be offered to pupils who:</p> <ol> <li> entered the key stage behind the expected level and/or</li> <li> are not on trajectory to reach national expectations, or to make two levels of progress and/or</li> <li> are looked-after children who would particularly benefit from this kind of additional support.</li> </ol> <p> This includes SEN pupils who meet the criteria for one-to-one tuition and who the schools feel would particularly benefit from this support are eligible. However it is important that one-to-one tuition is a supplementary intervention and is not used to backfill or replicate existing support.</p> <h1> The purpose of one-to-one tuition</h1> <ul> <li> One-to-one tuition is appropriate for pupils who have been taught a skill in the classroom, and subsequent efforts have failed to secure it.</li> <li> Much of the tuition time should be spent discussing high-value strategies which can be applied again and again in other contexts. Highly tailored tuition sessions are delivered by a qualified tutor at a pace that is both appropriate to the child and provides a balance between challenge and support to help pupils feel secure in their learning.
