The phonics screening check will be administered during the week commencing 17 June 2013.

To help prepare for the phonics screening check, teachers can watch a training video from the Department for Education on Vimeo.

Note: If you cannot view Vimeo content, you can also watch the video on YouTube or the London Grid for Learning community site.

Feedback from the pilot suggested that training on the scoring rules was essential for teachers administering the check to score consistently. It is therefore strongly recommended that all teachers who will be administering the check watch the video.

Teachers and headteachers should also read the 2013 Key Stage 1 Assessment and reporting arrangements (ARA) which sets out the requirements for the phonics screening check and other Key Stage 1 assessments. The ARA can be downloaded from this page.

The 2013 Check administrators' guide (CAG) is also available to download from the links section of this page. The CAG contains important information about what to do before, during and after the check.

Sample materials can be downloaded from this page. They contain information about the structure and content of the phonics screening check.

The Assessment framework sets out the specification for the development of the phonics screening check for 2012 and beyond.

A copy of the International phonetic alphabet can also be downloaded from this page, along with a factsheet about phonics for parents.
